What rotary switch for 3 position pickup selection

Hey,
Thinking of changing a p/j bass from V/V/T to V/T/3 way rotary.
It will be wired for neck/both/bridge

2 questions:

Do I need a 4 pole/3 position switch, or a 2 pole/3 position switch, or something different altogether?

When wiring, does it matter which order?
As in V/T/SW or V/SW/T?

sure.

mouser has 'em, the 4-pole 3-position alpha is solid.

It would take up more space, and possibly have a higher rotational inertia, but otherwise, it works exactly the same way. You just don't do anything with two of the poles.
