What should i do to get started?

so i have plans on getting a home studio set up. i will be recording local bands most likely 5pc. i am unsure of how i want to go about starting. maybe i can get some opinions here.

option 1- buying a decent desktop computer (pc)
- getting a presonus firepod
- getting a few mics (4 drum, 1 vocal, 1 cabinet)

option 2- saving and buying an imac
- getting something that runs protools such as an mbox or something.
- then mics and stuff

i would like to have both a pc and a mac in the future. but for now i think if i started building my studio around a pc it will be cheaper and i have a few more options. am i correct? i just want to be able to give bands good quality recordings. once i get a basic setup i will be upgrading/getting new stuff often.

thanks

Register. Read. Learn. It's my other forum, and there is an endless supply of information, and lots of great knowledgeable people willing to help. Also, being that it is a recording-specific forum, the results you get may be more reliable.

As to your question, yes it will be easier to start up with a pc based system. I have no experience with the Firepod, your initial mic choices sound about right. Two SDC's for drum over heads, a kick/bass mic (D112 FTW), a 57 for snare and guitar, and an LDC for vocals, room micing, etc...
