what should i get?

I might need to rent a amp to gig with and i was wondering is 100 watts enough for an auditorium filled with about 250-300 people and if not how many? I'm probably going to be renting a combo amp
and i'm not going to spending to much (that meens i'm not going to be renting $1000 amps) because the amp that i'm renting is probably going to end being the same brand that i'm going to end up buying so any recomendations on an affordable good sounding amp that's loud enough to gig with.

For that size gig you'd probly be going-D.I.- into the F.O.H. P.A. system for sound reinforcement, so what U need is really something for U to hear yr self-unless U R NOT going into the FOH system. then U'd need at least a 350w solid state amp, mark bass seem to be good pricwise & OK soundwise & good power wise- I myself 'd reccomend a tube amp the Yorkville 200w tube bass amp sounds like a beauty for the cash & this will give U plenty of volume for this & almost ANY size gig(200w tube is approx. the same volume as 1000-1200w solid state) bUT AS i SAY-IF u r-& u SHOULD BE FOR THIS SIZE GIG-GOING THRU THE P.A. SYSTEM -whoops-caps lock- a 350w s.s. amp like Mark bass, even the 450w Behringer(I know a lot of ppl will cringe) is great value & especially bang for buck!!!!! I've used this amp w/ a 4x10"cab & it did the job fine. Try a search here on TB for amps/combos in yr price range.
Rod.

Depends on the room and the style of music. For a hardcore/metal show with that many people in a room with crappy accoustics, you'd need a heck of a setup.

Is it for something like a talent show? Will the audience be sort of quiet? If so, you could project fine with some type of 1x15 combo.

it's basically a school auditorium. It's great for playing shows though because it's closed in and i've heard the school orchestra, jazz band and some other band from a different school play there and you could hear everything. It's about 3/4 of the size of a high school gymnasium and i'm pretty sure the wall are either covered with fuzzy insulation, wood or they might be brick.

Edit: Would the 400rb or the 800rb with that cabinet work well with a guitar too, becausemy brothers a guitar player and i might be able to split the money with him if it will work well with a guitar too.
