Double Bass What should I start with?

Hi I'm fairly new to double bass, I just finished the hal Leonard bass book, and wondering what songs you recommend I should learn first. I play guitar so I have some good knowledge of the bass and my fingers are used to the fingering techniques if that helps. Thanks a lot!

If you haven't taken any lessons yet consider doing so. While double bass and bass guitar are tuned the same, the techniques used in order to play them are not. The fingering technique is way different and using bass guitar fingering can hurt you in the long run. For me bass guitar is really like a second instrument. I will say though that the double bass does helpfully inform my bass guitar playing every now and then.

.... And, the double bass can be used in an extremely wide variety of genre with a large number of playing styles. A teacher is probably the easiest way to find out about those, to be exposed to the musical world that double bass applies to. Learning on your own from books and records can be done, but an early jump start with a teacher will speed that process tremendously, and will help instill good playing habits.
