What strings am I looking for?

Im a rock/funk bassist, and Im looking for strings with average to long life, that are dark and punchy.

The priority is punch, and flats are a no go since I slap a fair share.

My biggest influences on my tone are John Paul Jones, Bob Marleys bassist (always forget his name) for my fingerstyle, and Larry Graham for slap stuff

Ive tried elixers and they felt good, and I liked the tone, but what does talk bass recommend?

Larry Graham slapped with flats so i'm gonna say Chromes. They have to be the most versatile string I have used.

I really wish elixir would produce the polyweb bass strings again. The nanoweb are too bright and they stay that way. I've only played the polywebs on an acoustic guitar (grabbed them by accident) and they definitely have that played-in tone that seems a perfect match for bass players.

Fender makes a pure nickel string.... don't have much experience with them, though. Tried a set years ago... can't really remember how they sounded/felt.

I recently tried them and LOVE them. Fender 7150's.

By the way, if you liked the elixers, stick with them!!

I don't see any pure nickel wrapped strings from DR on their website. They have Sunbeams and Lo-Rider Nickel listed under "Nickel", but both of those are nickel-plated.

Hellborgs are pure nickel, or pure nickel wrap, like the Fender 7150's. Which are unlike the Sunbeams/Lo-riders.
