I just bought a new Squier Vintage Modified Jazz bass. The bass feels like it has been setup before so I am not sure if the strings are original or not. The look to be stainless steel strings with no colored threads wound around the ends. The ball ends are gold on the E, red on the A, silver on the D and looks like an aqua green color on the G string. Are those stock Fender strings or something else? Either way, what are they? I kinda like them.
Couldn't tell you without a pic of the strings, or even feeling them. They're the only brand that I know of that use the color-coded ball ends.
Cool, thanks for the info. I'm wondering if the bass was a return now. Not sure why it would have been setup with another brand of strings if it was new. Either way, it sounds good and plays well.
The 'aqua green' leads me to believe that they are indead stock fender strings. The ball ends are actually vintage custom paint colours. The aqua green would be 'seafoam green' the red 'Fiesta red' etc etc. Do they look like these 1950 dupont colours or just standard?
They're Fender brand strings. The Fender strings use a silver colored ball end on the D string, D'addario uses a black ball end on their D string. They're probably the 7250 nickel plated steel strings-IIRC only the Geddy Lee jazz bass comes with stainless steel strings on them.
I think the general consensus is that D'Addario makes Fenders strings for them to Fender specs. I'm pretty sure what you have on that bass is the stock strings it comes with.
