What Style is this? Tips?

Lately I've been messing with how I play as I am now playing in a new band which is much more calmer than my previous punk band and I really am working the fretboard more and getting into chords in songs as I play now with an acoustic guitar, 2 vocals and a 2-piece drummer with only hi-hat and ride for cymbals. Much more bare than a full on punk band haha.

Anyway, I've begun turning my right hand sideways if you will, as if I was holding a pick (but not). Perhaps like playing a classical guitar. I hit my low strings with my thumb (now down AND up! yay me, took a lot of practice) and using mainly my pointer and middle finger for higher strings and occasionally my ring finger for 3 string chords. I also noticed that it was easier to get some quick little pops and dead string pops without playing a full on Slap-n-Pop attack style. Then Friday I was at a Victor Wooten clinic and i saw him and Anthony playing like that quite a bit as they worked with chords (first time I've seen anyone do it, which naturally made me feel better). Is there a specific name to this style? And can anyone pass along some names/videos of players who commonly play this way that I can study and learn from?

Now for fast runs I still revert to the classic right hand positioning, specially to get my beloved 3 finger triplets in :) But i really began playing the fore-mentioned way when I began learning to play from sheet music (out of a piano book, the poor way) and needed to get these chords down easier which then was applied to my original composition in my band.

But hopefully someone can shed some light on this style and share some of their tips and uses for this style!
