What the radio doesn't play.

Wow. You must have mistaken me for someone who cares.

Here in the Greater Boston area the only station I listen to is 100.7 WZLX. They're a classic rock station which plays a great variety of music from my younger days, which means no Queens Of The Stone Age, just Queen! I believe they're privately owned, since some of the other Classic rock stations in my area have that certain "corporate" sound - you know, repeat "Margaritaville" ad nauseum. ZLX even plays semi-obscure Rush tunes like By-Tor And The Snow Dog and The Big Money!

Great station!

I listen to ZLX when I can. :bassist:

I can get in my car in most places and it gets streamed at work. It really is the best for classic rock around here.

I also listen to WHJY on my clock radio when I get up. This station falls into the category everyone is complaining about. They play a mix of new and old stuff, but you'll never hear anything other than what must be on some kind of a "safe to play" list. I really don't need to hear Bad Girlfriend and that "Something in your Mouth" song every half hour. Throughout most of the daytime hours they play the hits and that's about it.

Thank God for CD's and MP3's.

...:eyebrow: You listen to the radio? I listen to this thing called an iPod. It has tons of songs of music that I want to listen to on it. I put on random shuffle, and it's like a radio station but without annoying commercials or egotistical jackass disc jockeys.

I recommend you get one.
This pretty much sums up my music experiences now. I stopped listening to the radio when my friends became a better source for new music. Now if I like a song I download it and do not bother with the commercials. When I do listen to the radion, it is a talkradio station or more likely a sports commentary show.

/end microsoft junkie talk.

seriously; ever since i bought my Zune, music on the radio has been okay; it's mostly repeats but at least it's different then anything I listened to within a week.

for a while 101.1 CBS went by JackFM; they were the only radio station worth listening to. Then they went and I had to switch to 101.9
You can't listen to just your music; I put it on if I'm driving and don't want to wear my headphones. If I get sick of the radio I throw in a CD(Eagles, or Beatles) or throw back on my headphones and blast whatever I feel like. Maybe some Jazz; Maybe some Metal; maybe Grunge or the blues

I guess, in defense of WRIF, they have been on the air for almost 40 years, with the same format. Not a lot of rock stations have that going for them. And they have always been good to local artists, from Ted to Seger to Sponge to Kid Rock. They survived some strong competition from WLLZ (98.7) in the 80's and Z-Rock (102.7) in the 90's, and are still standing.

But, like most corporate-owned entities, they go where the money is, and that's just the brutal truth of it.
