Right now I'm loosely in a band, my friend who started the band is an incredible guitarist, who is on drums, already taking a burden for us, my twin brother is on guitar who is nearly as good, but doesn't play as clean and as effortlessly as this guy does, and this guy has experience managing bands and has been in many, but here's the problem. We all like similar genres of music, but the writing style is like different so to speak, and me and my brother are using this band kind of almost as like a lobby until we can find a more real band, but this guy doesn't know that and we are almost like taking advantage of him and I feel a little bad, he's been giving us space to practice and giving tips and letting my brother use a larger and more powerful amp, but we haven't given him anything in return, so, really, my question is, should we continue to be a band? Or should I just leave now? I dont wan't to be a dick to this guy because he's having a lot of trouble financially and academically lately so he's been stressed, so I'm wondering if I should just wait until he's more stable to break away?

What do you mean by treating this as a hobby until you find a "more real band"? What makes a different band "more real" than this one?
Because of you and your brother? Just pull it together and BOOM = Real Band.
The only drummer in town is already in like 3 bands and is constant demand, no joke.
no i'm just kidding. if i were in your shoes i would tell this guy how you feel. at least try to make this band work because you could regret it later. if it doesn't work you can at least say you tried and just move on.

I think you need to recognize what you have: A real band. Guy needs money? Get a setlist of cover tunes together and start playing some bar gigs. Work on the songwriting on the side.

I believe both of you have made vaild points, currently, Ill try to make this work and possibly find another guitarist or drummer on the side and get a few gigs down in the meantime.
