It starts at about 2:25 mark of the video:

It’s house music so everything is midi/ sampled and the bass line might be a sample too, but they also sample a lot of real basses so might be a real bass sampled then played via midi sequence.

This track has more modern bass tone to it, so I suspect active electronics is a must here.

My main issue is I’m not a 5 string guy at all, and all the samples of 5 string I hear online, the low end is always fuller and deeper even on E string, for obvious reasons, the neck is thicker and wider on 5er.

Could I even get this type of tone with a 4 stringer and 100-105 gauge E string?

If yes, what type body wood, pickup position, pickup types/ pre-amp, etc…would get me there?

I like one-piece maple on maple necks for their tone.

On body I have one JJ bass 32” with 30mm mahogany +15mm maple top body with passive jazz bass pups in it, it does have bigger low end from mahogany, but it does not sound like that at all,

I also tried 100% mahogany body 34” FSO Jazz bass with maple / maple neck and old Ken Smith JJ USA (split coil pups in passive only) in 60s position, did not get that tone either. But using Ken Smith tells me I might need ceramic split coils with some type of Pre-amp / EQ.

Cheers.
