Ah man, I put my pot in Dad's vice and cranked it down to hold it. Then it popped out, so I tightened it up a little more and it popped out again.
I got out the Bunz-O-Matic and fired it up, I heated the pot tab until it was red hot just like I do when soldering plumbing fittings and then wipped on the flux and added solder.
POOF the smoke was a lot more than soldering 3/4" plumbing fittings. Well The wire is on, but the pot doesn't turn anymore.
What did I do wrong?
I was working as an electronics tech at a TWO WAY business band radio shop back in 75when the CB craze first hit. In OMAHA, they know what to do with those hogs down there... 10-4
This guy had hooked his CB up backwards and it blew the fuse, so he progressed through the fuse supply up to about 400 amps and a bunch of smoke poured out of the radio.
A little diode in the radio causes the fuse to blow, but everybody cranks up the fuses until it kills the diode and starts a fire.
So he talke dto his buddy, who told him how to fix it... He did fire up the BUNZ-O-MATIC and the glob of solder was a two inch circle on the corner of the radio and the board was charred.
He said, can you fix this? I dropped it straight down into the garbage can and said nope and walked back into the shop... I was a cocky 19YO.. I have a ton of those kinds of stories.
