1966 Traynor YBA-1 Bassmaster with 2 15" cabinet. Still have both but I replaced the Traynor 15's with EV's.

Had to be around 78 I got my first BASS amp for Xmas and it was a brand new PV TNT100 yeah the first one they ever came out. Man I had it going on with that amp, That thing was the king back then.

I know this thread asks for the "first", but all of these early beasts have fond memories associated with them - like crapping out on stage, near electrocutions, and blown cones!
1. Sears Silvertone 20W guitar amp (not used with bass) (1968)
2. Riviera 70 Watt with homemade 2x15 Cab (with VW logo!) (1969)
3. National Guitar amp (used for Bass, then sold to our guitarist) w/ built in 2x10 (1969)
4. Ampeg B15 (speaker was shot!) (1970-71)

6. Kustom 150W plush head, solid state (in 1973! - still have it, won't sell it)

My first amp was a Fender 2-15 bassman cabinet with a Plush 400 tube head (1973). How many of you remember Plush Amplifiers?
I had one of those too. I sold the aforementioned fender to get it. The same day I got it I was looking at an SVT. It, of course, was much more expensive than the PV. Looking back though...........
My first amp was an Ampeg B15(?) with flip-top. I got it in 1981 & it was ancient then. Probably from the '60s. It was never loud enough as I was trying to use it in a power trio next to a Marshall 1/2 stack. I could never get the tone I wanted at the time. So I eventually got an Acoustic 220 with the 2-15 cabinet that was plenty loud with a decent tone.
I finally sold it for too little in a "Moving out of state" garage sale. I think for $150. Boy was I dumb (maybe I still am).
I wish I had that one back.
I'm thinking about selling the Acoustic, but I don't want to go through the sellers remorse in future years.

First of all,I don't really think I'm that old but it seems that 40 on this forum is old.
My first real rig was a Traynor Monobloc II (?) head and aTraynor 2-15 cab with RCF speakers. Bought it new in '82 (?).That was a loud setup and I wish I still had it today because Traynor had heavy duty stuff.I think the head is still owned by the DJ I sold it to in '87.

Reading about some oof these old POS amps definitely brings back some memories. My 1st amp was a Harmony combo with 1x15. A couple of amps later I had finally traded up to a Fender bassman with the tilt back 2x12.
Does playing through the stereo count?
My first real amp was a Kasino (made by Kustom Electronics Chanute, KS) head that was 125 watts @ 8 ohms. and I think, although I'm not sure it went to 200 watts @ 4 ohms into a 2x15 bottom. Think of that:
200 little watts driving 2 big 15s!
The sound was so-so. It had a normal channel that was too trebly and a bass channel that was too muddy so I made a Y adapter (one female splitting into 2 males) and then the sound was decent.
I do not miss it at all.

My first real amp was a Trayner solid state combo that I rented several times around 1970. Man, that thing farted if I played too hard, so I taught me to use a gentle touch.
After that I bought a Plush silver tuck & roll twin that was labeled as a guitar/bass amp. 100 watts of tube power. I eventually removed the head and built an EV eliminator folded horn cab (anybody remember these?).
Went through a Quilter ss head, then a Sunn 50 watt tube head before settling on a Music Man 65 amp with matching reflex-horn cab. Good amp, but not that much power. Sold it for grad school expenses and got a TNT 100...that kept me for a few years.
Now I'm up to an SWR SM-400 S and an Eden WT-300...quite a journey to get to these "real" amps.

It was a small National head with a matching 1-12 cabinet. I'm not sure how many watts it was, but it didn't really keep up with a drummer.
1980 Peavey Combo 150. Awesome amp. Lasted 20 years of constant gigging. It's still going strong under the ownership of a good friend.
1st ever: Ampeg B-100 1x10 combo. Still own it.
1st gig rig: Acoustic 150 head through Acoustic 301 cabinet (1x18 folded horn).
2nd gig rig: Acoustic 360/361 stack
3rd gig rig (the real deal for me): vintage Ampeg SVT head w/8x10 cab.

My first pro-level gear was a Fender Bassman head with a Peavey cabinet. To this day, that was the best bass amp I have ever heard, and I could shoot myself for selling it. It wasn't even a Bassman 100- it was probably only about 50-60 watts, but it sounded like the Concord taking off. I could hit a high A and produce roaring feedback.

My first rig was a Bruce with 2x15. It had the pre-amp top and the power bottom (amp located in speaker cab). It must have weighed 150 pounds Could never keep casters on the bottom due to weight of cab and constent giging. And by the way this amp was lent out to a one Marcus Miller a few times when we were kids in the early seventies.
