And yes, the Marshall 1550 is a 1x15 8 ohm cab.

If you don't feel like it needs a huge assist I'd find another 1x15 of similar size.

These things are NOT rocket-science. You can build a better cab for less money (a custom job!). Buy drivers and just build a box. Plans are available...I can supply you with these. The "custom" boxes I've been building totally outperform the "professional" or "brand-name" boxes. All plans for free. Tell me how many and what size drivers you'd like to use.

measure and determine the internal volume, and cab tunning of your Marshall. Find another cab(or make one) that has as close an internal volume as possible to the Marshal. Get the (port?)tunning as close as possible. Get a matching speaker(match the marshall or get two new matching speakers that will complament the box tunning) to put in there. done.

"Better" is subjective. People like the sound of certain cabs.

While I agree that matching cabs is the optimal situation, mixing cabs worked fine for thousands of bassists for several decades so...
