What would you prefer?

Hey guys, I currently own a mark bass sa450, and 2 mark bass 410"s. I have seen an ampeg svt-av, and ampeg svt-810av on sale for a pretty decent price and since that is my dream rig (or so i think it is) should i get that as well? I play in a rock punk band and am pretty limited in my playing, mainly solid root notes and the occasional fill.

Is it worth it? Or should i stick to what i have? Or should i get rid of the mb all toghether? I drive a Volkswagon golf so if i put the seats down i should be able to easily get the 810 around.

I've never played a Markbass rig, but i hear they are light and easy to carry around.

But for tone and power, I dont think you could beat the Ampeg...

and one 8x10 is easier to haul around than two 4x10's IME

Doesn't sound like a new rig is going to give you anything you don't have already, I wouldn't bother. Way back when, I thought the SVT/810 was the ultimate rig too, it's not.

They way im starting to see it is like this. My mark bass is light as hell. I can just take one cab if i really want. The tone is absolutely stinning with my jazz bass. But on the other hand, an ampeg is an ampeg. They are just awesome.

Another question i have is, if i get the 810, how easy is it to change the covering? I want to get a red cover on it.

Dunno re changing covering- I'd suppose U just glue the red vynil over the top! Do a search- say... tolex or red tolex...???
I saw a thread on here a while ago where it was all being discussed & was highly informative-pics & all! Glues, etc...

I voted the SVT/810 As U can see my sig. states I have a MarkBASS LMII & it IS a lovely li'l POWERFUL amp BUT I LOVE tubes & the sound U get from an ALL TUBE POWER section!!! NO, repeat NO S.S. OR hybrid amp can give U that feel & sound- IME!!!!! & while I'd reccomend the Berg. NV610 over the Ampeg 810, either IS easy to move, just tilt & roll, rest an end on the stage/ back of car etc. lift other end & push in!!! EASY imho! I've done FAR less lifting now that I own a 610, than when I had a SVT410HLF!!!!!!!!

I read a post up top about 2 410's being easyier to move around which is true in some cases. I have found though, IME that I can fit an 810 into my car easyier then 2 410's because 2 410's tend to be larger together then a single 810 cab. Come to think of it, I can't even fit 2 410's in the back seat.

I've never owned an 810 but I have owned 215's that are the exact same dims and have hauled barrowed 810's before.

If you are looking at Ampeg, I would be looking more at the VR than the AV (which is a CL with different looks). Both rigs are awesome, both rigs should be plenty powerful, and it really just comes down to what sounds better to you. Personally, I would take my Mesa 400+ over both

SVT is amazing.
Mark Bass is great with better speaker cabs......

I just am not a fan of the "old school" sound.
I like a tighter response and a happier bass tone. SVT is awesome for some, but not me.

What if i got the cab. And then waited around for a cheaper vr head to come about? Im really digging the mark bass tone. Just want a bit more of a tubey tone.

Have you played through an Ampeg+fridge setup? If it's the rig of your dreams, get it.

Yeah i have. Only thing is, it was in a shop. But i have heard many artists use it live, and it has blown me away. I just dont know if the extra weight is worth it?

It is going to be night and day comparing the 2 different rigs.

Update: Ok, well im still deciding on whether to just get the cab now. My mb sounds great. I have rehearsals on monday so i might give my rig one more chance for now.

What about a Schroeder Mini-12+ cabinet? Awesome tone, great company, not to pricey, lightweight and it will handle a ton of power.
