I experience continual temptation from the idea of getting John to build me one of his Marshall Super Bass preamp/OD pedals. :bassist:

Oh man, have you heard that Morley JD he did?? Wow. Sounds really really good. That's sort of my ideal dirt tone. I wish I could get my hands on that pedal. John builds some if not the most beautiful pedals I've ever seen. His craftsmanship is flawless IMO. His overdrive quest thread is always giving me straight GAS for anything that's on it. It's bitter sweet though realizing odds are I will never get to play let alone own any of his pedals. But thanks to a good friend, I'll get to taste one :) I can't wait!!!!! :bassist:

I'm really tempted to pick up one of his Gamma ODs:

His pedals always look a little funky to me graphically, and you have to wait/pay for it (except for the Gamma!), but the sound and craftsmanship borders on perfection. The Ginger I have ended my search for tube tone in a stomp. BDDI, VT Bass, SFT, BB Bass Preamp...destroys them all.

Coming: Hardwire CM-2, just cause

Going: MXR M80 DI+, again. Great stuff, just thinking about the M81 or even going back to the VT DI for my FOH needs. Or J48? Gah, who knows.

Yeah, I have been looking at the gamma OD as well. I have too many ODs as of now. But, the thought of an original one... That is why I think I like the Barbershop so much, aside from the fact that it is an amazing OD, it's also not just another variant of something I have 5 of already.

Seriously considering ordering one of his basses now. Need to put some thought into exactly what my dream would be, then think some more.

You know what would be amazing, one of his jazzmaster basses. But, with a second pickup like the one he puts in the P bass position at the Jazz bridge position. Each would ahve the switch he has now for Humbucker/Split P/Reverse Split P and a third switch for pickup selection (bridge/both/neck). 4 Knobs like on a Gretsch type of bass (Master Tone, Bridge Volume, Neck volume, Master Volume).

You could run it Double Humbucker, Double P, Single P, Reverse P, etc, etc, etc...

Yep, original is cool. I also like the simplicity of it, and the idea of a saturated amp with lots of low end.

The clips I've heard of the Barbershop sound like a farty amp with the tubes being pushed really hard. I'm not a fan of that kind of touch-sensitive compression, typically. Is that fairly accurate?

Well, it's simple yet versatile. It can definitely do that but depending on how you set the sag knob, you can get a lo of different tones out of it. I personally like it, but, as with any pedal, your tastes may vary.

I will say that it can drive my Fuzzrocious Dark Driving like nothing else I have tried.
