could someone please tell me the difference between neo speakers and regular speakers, apart from the weight difference?

Neo speakers use a different type of magnet
They will sound different, but there are so many aspects to take into account, that neo speakers as a whole dont have a specific difference from other types of speakers.

The magnet material does not define performance. OTOH neo drivers are more recent designs than the ceramic drivers they replace, so they tend to have many specs that are improved over older models.

Being that Neo magnets are broadly referred to a "rare earth magnets", they are considered the strongest,although, they lose their strength at a lower temperature than ceramic.In contrast,
a "grape" sized Neo magnet will roughly be equal to a Ceramic magnet that is "tennis ball" sized.
Neo magnets are more costly to manufacture than Ceramic, Alnico is not as costly as Neo, but due to the high cobalt content, it is more expensive than ceramic.
Neo magnets are more resistant to demagnification.
Ceramic magnets are Chemically inert, Neo's must be protected, must be encapsuled to protect from rust. Alnico magnets also hold up good to the outside environment as well
Neo is unquestionably a stronger magnet.
This is some basic magnet info without getting into gauss numbers, Sl (Tesla) units or curie points.

FYI Alnico= ALuminum NIckel and CObalt, with small amounts of Iron, copper and depending on the manufacture Titanium.

Another difference to note is power handling. While Neos are lightweight they don't handle quite the same amount of power as ceramic magnet speakers.

That would seem true, although, I'm looking around to verify that.
Theoretically speaking, Neo's completely lose their magnetism at a lower temperature than other types of magnets, however, that temperature is like 150C though (SO,silly of me to state useless information.)
Also, If i'm not mistaken,(correct me if i'm wrong) utilizing a stronger magnet, ultimately increases the efficiency of the driver.
Beyma has a 15" Neo driver that is comparable (power wise) to their 15" model.
