What's wrong with the tobias toby deluxe-v?

I was looking around on the bass section at musician's friends the other day and I've noticed poor reviews on a tobias toby deluxe-v 5-string bass. the 4-string version has a lot of positive reviews, but the 5-string version has such poor reviews. I took a listen to these basses on youtube and they actually sounded pretty good. but I wonder why this tobias bass has such bad reviews.

Has anyone here try out these basses? if so, how is it? what are the pros and cons on these basses? but most of all, is this really a bad bass to own?

Electronics and weak pickups. The neck and action feels pretty good on these basses though, so if you buy one cheap enough and change the electronics and pickups, you'd have a pretty decent bass. It's also a fairly light bass. I had the Toby Deluxe IV and probably should have just kept it and modded it, but I included it in a multi-instrument trade a while back.

There was a thread about this some months back. If I recall correctly, it to do with the electronics in the 5-strings. I'm sure you can google the thread and get some answers.

I didn't think of checking the search engine for that. I'll do a search on that. also I've looked up reviews on this bass and they did say something about the electronics and one of the string are completely weak. I do ponder if those who bought the bass despite the poor reviews has those basses modified to improve them. cause that's usually the beauty part of buying a cheap bass. having it modified to improve the quality of the bass.

That's what I was thinking. if the bass is really that weak, it should be modified. that was the bass will be new and improved.
