When did 'Modern C' necks show up?

Every time I pick up a P-bass with a Modern C profile it's like comfort food. I cut my teeth on a early 90s MIK Squier, and have a standard mid-90s Korean P currently. I could get rid of every other bass and be content, nah, F that noise...BUT when I pick up a '70s P or my Tele bass they get put back down.

I'm just curious about when these necks came into being - was it in the 80s or 90s?

I recently acquired a '91 Korean 'Fenix' bass. Fenix also made Squier from '88 - '91. Despite being the full 1.75" wide it is the thinnest back to front of all my basses - a mere 20mm - and is certainly what I would call 'Modern C'. The funny thing is it feels like the 1982 JV Squier I used to own, which was supposed to be a '57 replica. I've never played a real '57, but if the Squier really was a replica (and they supposedly were), then maybe the Modern C has been arounda lot longer than we think? And even if it wasn't a true replica, it certainly had a Modern C feel about it. So to the question, maybe the Modern C appeared as early as 1982.

I had and played a bunch of MIJ Fenders from the 80's. Most of them had what is described as a "modern C" shallow neck profile. My 1990 MIJ 62-73 Jazz has a very shallow neck, something called "slim C" I believe, not unlike Geddy Lee Signature model.
My '99 MIA Precision also has a modern C neck. I'm not sure, but I believe it may even be a touch slimmer than today's necks.

I have an Acoustic Black Widow from Japan that is circa early-mid '70s. It's neck is definitely in the same ball park as the modern C on my '90s MIK Fender. Hmmmmm.
