New member here, and here's my story.
Bought myself a decent Fender Classic Series 70's Jazz Bass (sunburst) back in 2009 and was content with just that and my Bassman 25 until some Craigslist deals took me to the dark side of GAS, lol.
First was a GK 700RB Mark II head paired with a 410GBH 4 ohm cabinet for $600. I simply could not pass it up, but really only used it to backline a stage that I run sound for in the summer, so it was other players who got to enjoy it.
Next on the 'list was a Fender Classic Series 60's Jazz Bass, paired with an Ibanez combo practice amp, for $300. I kept the JB and gave the amp to a buddy who needed it more than I did. The bowed neck had clearly never met an allen wrench, and needed some major love to get straight, but it's now my favorite bass to play.
And then I joined a band, and realized there is NO WAY I could possibly gig regularly with a 96lb 410 cabinet. I had to call a neighbor to help me lift it into my truck for my first gig, and vowed to get something much lighter.
Enter Craigslist yet again.
I believe the price was $400, maybe $450 but not more than that. The seller had bought the GK CX210 and CX115 from Sweetwater just the year before, and they never left his house. They literally looked brand new.
Happy to finally join this forum after spending so much time reading posts over the years. Bass always took a back seat to my guitar playing, but a couple years ago I switched my priorities and I'm loving being a bassist.
