.... how do you cut it?

I use a knife, usually with a slighty serrated edge. I place the sandwich on either on a plate or a cutting board to prevent damaging my countertops. I move the knife back and forth across the surface of the sandwich with a slight downward pressure until it has passed completely through. I then seperate the halves and place a pickle spear in bewteen them. Pickle spears are commonly replaced with a favorite brand of potato chips. I usually wash the knife off just after cutting it, but sometimes it sits in the sink until I get to it.

There's some cultural thing going on here. The way I see it, a sandwich consists of two slices of bread, one placed on top of the other with stuff in between. Hence, I cut it vertically twice, or I would not have two slices. While I can visualize the concept of cutting horizontally it doesn't exactly strike me as a useful way of doing it. Diagonally? It boggles the mind. I could see a guitarist or drummer doing it, but not a bass player...

What is different between cutting a sandwich side to side and vertically? The end result is identical.

Side to side, you don't get the pointy corner to start off the dining experience...it's just better diagonally.

And toasted. HAS to be toasted. Potato Bread or Rye or Wheat...none of the white bread stuff.

Corner diagonally to corner, that's where it's at...mmmmmm, sammich.

We're not talking about slicing the bread in the process of sandwich making, we're talking about cutting the sandwich once it's made.

Yeah, I knew that. I was being facetious. But I still wonder why you should divide it into smaller pieces such as halves if you know you're going to eat both. That's the cultural issue.

Me:
  1. Slice
  2. Butter slices
  3. Add cheese
  4. Maybe add ham or salami
  5. Stack
  6. Stuff into mouth
  7. Chew
  8. Swallow
  9. Chase with beer
  10. Burp
  • Repeat and rinse.
  • Excercise...
