WHERE ARE SOME CHEAP BASSES

I have three 5-string Fender Squires in the 300.00 range + shipping. A deluxe active jazz, a collectors Pro Tone, and a anniversary precision with jazz pickups. All can be played professionally, or kicked around in practice if that is your desire. HAPPY HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 
There are some affordable Ibanez basses that you can find on any online music store like musician's friend, music 123, zzounds, samash.com, etc. I've bought an Ibanez gsr105ex 5-string bass(a.k.a the Ibanez gio 5-string bass) from samash.com about a month ago and it sounds awesome. if you like ibanez soundgear basses but you're on a tight budget, check out the gsr series from Ibanez.
You can also find some inexpensive buys looking at retailers closeout/outlet sections. Musiciansfriend, Amazon, and SamAsh all have these sections and there are are occasionally some incredible bargains to be found.
Call Fatdog at Subway Guitars. It's been about 10 years since he updated the inventory on his website, but he always has some cheep gems. They're all mutts but he sets them up so they play beautiful. Back when Fender was bought by CBS Fatdog bought up their inventory of necks and bodies. I think he did the same with Danelectro and Dean. He stuck all that stuff in a warehouse and every once in while pulls out a few and assembles them. Some of his creations a pretty wacky. I have a beautiful fretless Jazz I bought from him for $250 back in 2000.

+1 on those websites. I'm planning on purchasing an arbor bass from amazon.com real soon. I've been curious about arbor basses for quite a while.
I have 2 on ebay. Look up mgkelectronics. One is a beautiful SX SJB623TS, the other is a Squier 60's Vibe p bass. Both are just like brand new.
I like pawn shops. Mostly because I like instant gratification. I look around until I see something I like and try it out. If I still like it, I make an offer. Never forget that most pawn shops will negotiate. Just be sure to bring a small practice amp and a cable with you in the car. Some shops are strictly no return, others will let you try it at home and if there is something wrong with it you can return it. I almost didn't buy my Dean because it sounded crackly as hell in the pawn shop, but they said I could return it if it sounded the same way at home. It didn't. The problem was their amp/cable. Now I always have my own gear with me just in case.
