Where can I find a bass player?

Hey all. I have a really good Classic Rock/Top 40 cover band in the Los Angeles area with plenty of gigs... and I am having a heck of a time finding a mature, reliable bass player! Where is the best place to find a bass player??? I've tried all the usual methods, but have all the bass players been abducted by aliens? :hmm:

Anyhow... if anyone knows of a good, friendly, mature, reliable bass player, please pass on the word that my band is looking. Our website is Link Removed. Contact info is on the site.

We do everything from the Beatles to current day and are having tons of fun.

One note... while we get paid for most of our gigs, you can't make a living doing this!

Nobody wants to live in DC. Crime, Traffic, Cost of Living, center of ground zero....

Florida is where they want to be. Sunny, warm, friendly, everyone wants to live in Florida.

Well that explains it. I used to live in Greenbelt MD. so I guess I'm "from" there also.:D

They still need to move to Florida. That band could work for "The Rat" and make a grand a week plus corp. bennies each and never leave the magic kingdom

Gary, it's been about three years since I moved from L.A. to LA. Not to diss other publications (notably the one beginning with "Music" and the other "Re "), but you'll find some of the more reliable players on www.musicianscontact.com The site is national, but SoCal based. I always got calls for gigs. too bad I can't sit in...

Can't commit to a fulltime cover gig, but I am available to do sub work. I play with a lot of major cover and corporate acts in town. Like many of my bass player friends in this town, we all play in a number of bands so for cover things, unless it pays ALL the bills, we have to be somewhat mercenary in our behavior when it comes to cover situations. Friends, or great orginal music, that's different.

Its true, all of the socal bass players have been swallowed by the black hole we call "the real estate market". It is not possible to live here and not have a full time job, so there are lots of guys who rip the bass working a day job that wears them out. I speak from experience having tried to work full time and be in a working band ... I just can't do it. Thursday night gig in LA, get back home around 3 or 4, friday morning work starts at 9! :hyper:

I have to keep my gig situation casual. Too much committment and I just can't do it. But good call posting here, you just might turn somebody up. Sadly I'm in the business of turning down gigs these days :( The rock n' roll dream is on hold for now for me.

I might be interested.... actually, I just saw your ad on MC...
I'm a full time working musician here in Los Angeles (check my profile).
The problem in L.A. is the $$... most of the clubs don't pay enough... If you think the time spent driving, the gas, the food, for a 4 hours gig...:rolleyes: and obviously your own living expenses...
Pro musicians, most of the time, can not take those kind of gigs...
