Where can I find????

So I am just hours away from owning a 75 pbass (olympic white, with maple neck) and I know that this is probably going to make some people cringe, but it currently has a pickguard that I want to change. i want black, it is not black, kind of a reddish tortoiseshell thing. It's cool, and looks alright, I just want black. Also the tone/volume knobs are jazz knobs as the dude replaced them back in the day, and I am wanting to get some knobs that are a bit more original. I also need bridge and neck pickup covers (due to his being lost long ago). It is an incredibly awesome instrument, and knowing that those things had been changed, although back in the day, I just want to restore it.

Any suggestions?

It most likely came with a black PG originally. Pickguard Heaven has the original style guard, they make pickguards for many manufacturers including G&L and Musicman.

Bass Parts Resource carries the original style Fender Knobs. They also carry the covers you are looking for.

Here is a gratuitous pic of my 76 with original black pickguard, covers and knobs.

hey - I wonder if you have my old bass.......I had one like you're describing (oly white/maple), and it had a gold anodized guard when I got it. I changed it out for a red tort one, which was still on the bass when i got rid of it. sadly I had to sell the bass a few years back.

actually it's not very likely that my old bass made its way to SoCal from Des Moines, IA. I just like excuses to dream about that bass....

My suggestion is, if the guard is original, to get used to the tortoise 'guard. :)

Oly white and tort is one of THE classic Fender looks.

Original knobs on their own may be a bit of a job to find. There are currently made replacements available from AllParts and Fender but they're much heavier metal than the originals I have on my early-mid '70's Ps.

Bridge/pickup covers are alxo available from AllParts and maybe Fender.

I like the oly/tort don't get me wrong. I just have a thang for that black pickguard. The sale is on hold for today, I am getting the neck checked by a luthier tomorrow. There is a slight bump on the g string side, between the 4th and 6th frets. There is not a bump on the other side. So the g string buzzes from the first through the 4th fret. I just want to make sure the neck isn't beyond repair before I pull the trigger.
