Losing faith in humanity...one call at a time.
No secret here with this username! I'm a fire captain/paramedic, and I love every shift I work. It's really the only thing I can imagine doing (other than standing in for Geddy Lee on a Rush tour).
Interestingly, I've wanted to be a fireman since I was about 8 years old, and pulling the still box on Damen Avenue...just to see Engine 102 and Truck 25. Things got a little off-track when I was eighteen. I spent some time in university, then worked as a landscape architect for a few years. Talk about feeling like a fish out of water!!

Racing team owner. I currently own 3 race cars. I have two drivers and one crew chief.

I am a student, but my job is working with at-risk preschool and kindergarten kids, mentoring them in literacy and the skills required to be successful in school. Most of the kids are in danger of being held back. The idea is that by helping children overcome the initial hurdles of school, and helping them to gain enthusiasm for learning, we will decrease the dropout rate, and eventually the poverty rate in my county.

i am a junior high school english teacher in israel... waiting for my band to make it big. also looking to start a band before that happens
After almost a decade of full-time bass encompassing the British and U.S. Military, Universities, Clubs and so on during my late teens & twenties, I took up my secondary Art form as an acrobatic, architectural, masonry painter & decorator for a while during the times when I was songwriting and studying guitar and Lute.
Now I am old - I can do just music and songwriting but I am a Sports Official (Cricket) and Press reporter (Soccer) to keep up the interest although, when I told F.C. Club Prez that nobody has asked me to play footie for a couple of decades, he mentioned that age may be the reason, therefore, the County F.A.(Amateur levels) would probably refuse Insurance coverage. With 10 guitars/basses 2 keyboards 5 recording devices and a 30 year old Quadrophonic Vinyl record deck rigged up to my Bass rig - who needs a boring non-music job when the Pension takes care of all else. Most of you - don't give up your day job. I have roamed and never bought Real Estate. Any bassists who can get round the career idea: It will be a struggle now and then so track round Studios, run with 3 or 4 bands and only decline the most dire of offers. The best Live work is in clubs and cabaret so aim for that circuit. You can always fit in other occasional bands gigs. The competition is fierce but there is far more work in U.S.A. than in U.K. U.K. bassists must be prepared to spend months at a time in Europe etc.
Did all that 40 years ago - so I know the score.

I'm a PhD student in English, I attend jam sessions now and then but not playing as much as I'd like. Prior to grad school I was a tech writer and worked a bunch of part-time and summer jobs while a student during my BA. Still trying to find a that balance between acceptable (possibly satisfying) day job, and fun/interesting band for a significant amount of time.

I am unemployed, living off my girl friend at her place, I need rides to band rehearsal and gigs as I don't have a car. It's all about the music, man. I'm not into all that corporate-y, materialistic stuff.
