I have a Korean TWX41. They are not SX type quality, they're much better imo. Not as great as the Japanese versions but pretty awesome basses still. I recommend giving it a try. Mine's a heck of a slap monster, great neck too.

The difference in the two are like the difference in an MIA Fender and a MIM.
Both are of excellent quality.
But the Japanese Tunes have more work put into the details.
And into the price!
Korean Hatsun Tunes are sold worldwide.
But you can only get a Japanese Tune in Japan.

Maybe I could put this a different way.. It is really hard to see from a pic how good or bad the quality of something is. As I would expect that the tune guitars are coming out of the same factory that is pumping out all of the Korean made guitars.. Is this the typical Korean quality bass (Cort/ Ibanez/ Schecter) or are they to the higher end of the spectrum
There are two factories.
One in Japan and one in S.Korea.
I would say the quality of Korean Tunes is higher than Cort and Schecter.
Equal to Ibanez.
But then I am biased.
I chose a Tune bass over the others.

Funny thing is SX actually licensed the Bass Collections version of the Tune bass maniac (which may well be a copy of questionable legality itself). I have two of the SX version, and they're definitely SX level of quality (but also price), love 'em both. But I still yearn for an original MIJ Tune Bass Maniac fretless 5. So I think the quality progression is basically MIJ Tune > MIK Tune > Bass Collections > SX.
My first actually useable bass was a Tune Bass Maniac. That was back in '85. I still have the bass and love it. Although I rarerly play it these days it's still one of the basses I most definitely will never sell. Partly because my father bought it for me and partly because of the long hours of practise spent with it!
gebass6 - are there any U.S. based retailers? Thanks for the link, but i'm concerned about ordering from an out of country firm. If something were to happen in shipping, it would make it a lot harder to rectify the situation. I've looked all over the "interwebs" and have not found a U.S. based retailer. Thanks again.

gebass - thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be looking for a used one - got to start saving my $$$. 
I had a Tune Bass Maniac with brass hardware and nut, it had I believe a 4 band eq under the plate. That bass built for the funk.
