So,
I think I found a good speaker configuration for the bass rig I'm saving up for. I play various types of music, from blues-rock to grunge to punk. I've got a Sterling RAY34. Current amp is Fender Rumble 75. I think I can get by with a 4x10, and then add on to the setup later if I need more power. I'm open to other makes, but i've always liked what I've heard out of SVTs. I'm at a time in my life right now where I don't have any huge debt to pay off, haven't started paying for college, (yet) so I'm pretty much free to spend the money I earn at my job. I'm gonna put a percentage of what I make each paycheck into savings for college, but I know if I work enough hours, I should be able to afford a decent bass rig.
My bass teacher strongly recommended I buy a tube head while I still have no debt. So, I've been looking at SVT tube heads. like the SVT CL and the VR. I'm okay with the stuff having been built in foreign countries, as long as the quality control is good. My RAY34 bass is from Indonesia. It's a great bass.
I'm open to other makes of cabs and heads. Regarding Ampeg, should I get the 410HLF or the 410E? I want a good balance of power and ease of transport/portability. That's the reason I'm not getting a big 810 cab. It would be good if the rig had caster wheel things on it, so I can move it around a bit easier. I saw a used SVT410 at a local music store (used) for like 450$. Usually, they are a few hundred $ more new. I'd kinda rather buy new, just because I wanna make sure nothing is broken from the previous owner, but I'm okay with buying used as long as the equipment is not damaged.
SVT CL or VR head? both 300 watts.
thanks.
