We do need more information. (Combo vs. head? Tube vs. solid state? Price range?)
For blues, I use an Ampeg 100R "Rocket Bass" combo. 100 watts, solid state, 15" speaker, warm sound, surprisingly loud, "retro" cosmetics. I love it. It works for jazz, too, although for more modern, i.e. "smooth" or "quiet storm" jazz, I'd use my other setup, a GK 1001RBII head into a GK 210RBH cabinet.
My key band throughout fourty years of bass playing, and starting with a washtub at 12 playing Kweskin style blues, has always been a blues band of some type so I feel I can make some kind of knowledegeable response. Unfortunately that response is a cliche on this board - any amp will work if you can hear it in a gigging situation, the blues comes from you.
any years ago I was concerned about my rig and blues tone, a visiting pro from good ol' USA guested on my rig and my guitar and just blew me away, I had never heard a rig so good. I learnt a lot from that, not the least being humility! So.... your tone really is in your hands, but as bass players we do seem to enjoy gear (I know I do).
That said, I am very happy with both my Markbass and my Mesa 400+ for my blues gigs. The MB showed me after years of being committed to tubes that solid state has caught up.
Sorry to be so wordy - Saturday early morning, just got in after a gig, as usual checked Talkbass first (as you do....)
