"Give it to me baby" by Rick James? Just love it. One of the best bass tones/riffs ever IMO!

I know he's standing with a Rick on the cover of the album ("Street songs"), but I also know he used a Stingray alot back then and since the sound is so "firm" I would think he used the Ray in the studio?

What do you think? Anyone that has hard evidence?

don't know about the bass, but that's a song i've been wanting to hear forever heh. sounds like a rick to me, tbh.

making a ric so funky, that's gotta be worth some kind of award.

here's a live performance some years later, dude on bass is kickin on a smith 6 string. sounds like they had to drop it a full step though. guess all the coke hosed rick's range.

I don't know, but on the cover IIRC, Mr. James is sporting a Rickenbacker.

In that video the bass is a Ken Smith BT6 with what appears to be a Chuck Reiney body. Rick played a Rick' and I've seen him with a Spector on rare pictures. RJ's primary bass was a Rick'.

Bassist Oscar Alston recorded most of the Rick James bass lines. He played a Musicman Stingray.
