Which bass MIM jazz, MIA jazz, sx and mod it

let me rephrase that i can afford it. but then my bank account will got to 0 cause im 16 and without a job hahaha
SX's are nice instruments for the money but I do not believe they are even equal to MIM Fenders let alone a MIA. Not to mention the extra resale from actually having the Fender name.
Save some cash and get the MIA used.
I modded a MIM Jazz bass and it never sounded as good as a stock MIA Jazz. I added high end tuners, basslines PU and a BAII bridge. Byt a MIA if you can afford it IMO.
That mirrors my experience. SX's are good for the price, but that's about it IME. MIM's are noticeably better, but still entry gear. MIA's, while not being uber boutique quality, are solid pro level stuff. If you want an instrument where you won't be wanting to upgrade later, get the MIA. The SX might be enough for you, but they have all felt cheap to me (which to be fair, they are).
I got my fretless MIA J for $450 here on talkbass. Not the deal of the century, but still a durn good deal all the same. If you hunt around for a bit, you can usually get a good deal on a MIA. Plus if you decide you don't dig it, you can get whatever you spent on it back by reselling.
I have a MIM jazz. Its a nice bass and with some mods like an Audere preamp and SD Basslines. It is every thing I want in a bass

Seriously, my first bass was an MIA Jazz and try as I might I can't find any bass (in a similar price range) that beats it. I'm sure if I wanted to spend a few grand more I could find a "better" bass, but that's not in the cards. I've got an SX for kicking around on, and I like it, but even after mods it is nowhere near my MIA.
Although I will say the G&L tribute idea isn't bad. I've got an L2.5K that rocks pretty hard, and the fit and finish of that bass is excellent.

I'd love to see someone have a blindfolded jazz bass test at some GTG. BLindfold a bunch of bass players and pass around different Jazzes. Just allowed to play the bass and not fondle headstocks, etc. with a camcorder running.
See how many can really tell the difference in the feel and sound of the basses when they're not sitting at a keyboard pushing others to spend money.

Well, I wouldn't say that an MIM isn't a fine instrument (especially for a beginner). For that matter an SX or a Squier would do the job very well I'm sure, but I guarantee that I could tell the difference between my SX and my MIA blindfolded or not. My SX does the job and was 1/10 the cost, but my MIA inspires me to play in a way that the SX never could.

I do not agree with what your saying.
If you can't tell the difference blindfolded between a SX and a fender you don't know what you're doing. Even between a MIM and MIA 08. I don't know if you've played the new ones. They feel, play and sound amazing. Maybe if you're lucky and buy the best MIM there is, but even then.
I'd say, if you can, go with a MIA 08. If you can avoid the GAS you'll be settled for ages to come. With the others you'll just be wanting something better. If you go for the MIM, play a LOT of different ones until you find one that suits you. I wouldn't go with the sx if you have other options. I've owned an sx. Was good for the money. But if it costs that little, it'll be that good and not better.
Honestly, I have owned MIM, MIA, and Japanese Jazz's and as much as I love my MIA I have to say my 75 RI Jazz is the best out of all three. IMO
So I'm sure you guys would have no problem putting your bass palettes to the test and taking the challenge if presented to you.
As stated... I'd really like to see it done in a surrounding where the guys taking part had no clue what was being handed to them. Possibly being handed the same bass mixed in multiple times, etc.
