Absolutely Jack Bruce, in Cream. I could also mention that he composed almost all of their original songs, and was the main singer. And, he also played cello, harmonica, acoustic guitar, piano, organ, recorder...

Huge Meisner guy here. Poco, Rick Nelson & the Stone Canyon Band and the Eagles. He was the bassist of early LA Country rock.

I saw Booker T. last year in Portland with Melvin Brannon Jr. on bass. Booker T. is still putting on a show, and Melvin is a fantastic bassist and consummate performer.

I saw a couple shows with Booker T and Melvin Brannon on bass, man, was he great!

IMO, Jaco did not make Weather Report. It was already a great band. It was different with him. The song Birdland was a Zawinul composition and is what propelled them into the public eye. This is not to take anything away from Jaco. He was an incredible talent, and one of the very best to ever play the instrument. This is only my opinion, yours may differ.

That said, I liked neither the tone nor solos.
