Size of the speaker has little to nothing to do with the tone. It comes down to how the cabinet was designed. Plus, your version of good tone is different than mine. Do you have a chance to try the gear out with your bass and amp head of choice?

The v3 Fender Rumbles seem perfectly matched for a P bass...almost as if it were intentionalIve played my P bass through much more expensive gear, but a P bass into a Rumble can nail that classic "Fender" tone like nothing else.
As someone who has played this very cab in one form or another since 1992, I have yet to have a problem with low end. Sub lows? No, but it's got enough low end to have held it down for a large portion of professional touring bass players since I have been alive.Actually, anything with zero bottom end could substitute.
