I'm looking for a Chorus pedal to use mostly with my fretless. Could someone please share any experience that they might have with the Boss CEB or the Digitech XCB pedals, or some other pedal that might be better? I'm trying to keep it under $100 (new).

Thanks,

George

I have an Ibanez CF7 (Chorus and Flanger), and for the money, it's pretty spectacular. It's very shapeable (though has a distinct Ibanez sound that's apparent in their other pedals; some like it, some dont, I personally have grown to like the "warm shell" kind of sound), and has a "Wack'd" mode which intensifies the variables (making for some very spaced out tones).

The chorus, set in a standard and practical tone, sounds quite nice. I use it on both bass and guitar and I can get a pretty good range of clean/lush-ness, and the Flanger is also pretty good, it can also go from full on wooshing to subtle back-logged flange.

I'd do a demo for you with it but my bass is still broken. Guitar be alright?

The Boss CEB-3 is nice, but nothing has topped my Electro-Harmonix Stereo Clone Theory. Organic, lush, and flexible!

The only problem is that it's about $118.00. However, I've seen it for a little above $100 on eBay.

There's always the Small Clone, too. The Nano Clone is excellent as well, but a bunch of us TBers just found out about an odd issue with its power supply - it's reverse-grounded, so when plugged into a daisy chain with multiple, the entire effects chain doesn't work (seems to work fine by itself, however). It'll probably work fine with isolated-output power supplies, though, like the Voodoo Lab one.

So, yeah... if you're on a budget, and $50 sounds great to you, go for the Small or Nano Clone. They're similar enough to the Clone Theory that unless you want the extra features, you wouldn't regret it.

the maxon cs9pro, though expensive, is beautiful. sometimes you can find them for CHEAP on ebay. if you can swing it, it's absolutely worth it.

other than that, the boss bass choruses are nice, if a little sterile (which is just fine for some). the EH small clone is juicy and nice (though i hear from mr. boo that the stereo clone theory is The Bomb as far as EH choruses go). if you want to go very cheap but effective, do a danelectro fab chorus (cheap as they are, the fabs are actually quite nice).

all that being said, maxon cs9pro = whoa.
