3. Fender American Original 70's Jazz
4. Fender American Professional II Jazz
5. EBMM Stingray

The absolute best Fender Jazz I’ve ever encountered has failed to make your list. I’ll count it as an oversight and be the first to suggest it. I submit to you the mighty .... Fender US Geddy Lee!!

It’s not thick at all. It’s just more meaty than the paper thin necksbthat came on the 1st Geddy Lee models that were made in Japan. Those are notorious for warping and twisting due to being so thin.
It’s actually a lot less baseball bat compared to the Original 70’s and vintage models from the 70’s which have the U shaped neck.
This neck is the most comfortable Jazz profile I’ve ever known.
Do a search here and you’ll find that these models are highly sought after for their tone and the great feeling necks that are exclusive to the US Geddy Lee.

I am 1 yrs older than you. 3 months ago I had the exact same desire. Never owned a really nice bass and decided to take the plunge just like you. Except, me being a die hard 80's metalhead who never grew out of it, I went the path of a brand new Dingwall. What a fabulous instrument. I couldn't be any happier. Whatever you buy, I hope you have the same end results.

I think you can "have your cake and eat it, too". Get a used 2013 - 2016 Fender American Standard Jazz. These years of American Standard Ps and Js are among the best basses Fender has ever made, IMHO. They routinely show up here on TalkBass, eBay or Craigslist @ $1000 ... often less.

When I saw the USA Geddy Lee was not on the list I wondered how far down I'd have to read to get to a post noting its absence.

Get a musicman. Fender will disappoint.

Funny. When I got my Fender Marcus Miller Jazz, I tried out a MusicMan first. It cost more but was within my spending budget. I hated the feel, the tone and generally everything about it. I bought the Jazz, and gigged it almost exclusively for close to 10 years. I won't easily be tempted to try a MusicMan again. I did. It disappointed. The Fender didn't.
