On the original recording, the one that was released on the British version of the AYE album, Noel played a hollow body electric guitar. But there were several versions of the song and we definitely know that Noel had a Fender VI. So I'm not aware that he ever played the song on a VI, but if he did, it wouldn't surprise me at all. On the live versions, Noel played his Fender bass. The one exception was a Paris show in which he played a Gibson guitar supposedly borrowed from Keith Richards. Hendrix introduces the song by saying Noel is going to play guitar on it. By the tone of his voice, he sounds amused by it all. But that was typical of the way he acted on stage with Noel--sometimes referring to him as Bob Dylan's grandmother, etc. This version of the song is found on the Dagger release of a 1968 concert.
