Which is a better choice?

OK, I'm interested in getting a new bass but can't decide on 3 choices. Either a Fender Precision, a Jazz or an Epiphone Thunderbird. Your views please

As most players will tell you, it really depends on what style you are playing, but more importantly, what sound you want. I've found a big issue is the bass sound that fits with my band. It is not exactly what sound I like playing solo, but it is a necessity, because I only play solo at home

So, what style of music do you play? With a band or solo? How many guitar players? Do you use effects? What kind of bass sound do you like (i.e. describe sound or reference songs/players that have the sound)?

If I were in your shoes I'd go with one of the Fenders..

If you have multiple gigs / music styles and genres you play, I'd go for the Jazz as it's more versatile tonally.

If you just have a rock/metal type thing going on, the P bass* would work great as there's nothing "more rock" than a Fender P bass through and Ampeg..

Personally I've never played a Thunderbird that I liked. Heavy, unbalanced, awkward.. I'd stay away from them.

Have you played any of the basses you've listed? Check them out if you haven't... P basses have thicker necks than Jazz basses which put some off. On the other hand, the Jazz bass' slimmer neck doesn't appeal to everyone.


*Note the J Bass will work well here as well

Get the Fender (either one) it will work in almost any situation.
