My wife and I recently took our CD collection (about 400) to stores. I could see it growing. We don't like any clutter. Its so much easier hooking an Ipod up the the system and listening to that. I use a Denon / B&W setup. I put many a skip in my records as a kid when I would be jumping around to the music and the needle would skip. A brand new record probably does sound better than a file, but a record that skips does not. There's some talk of itunes and such including liner notes, etc in the future.

Why isn't mini disk an option? :D I only listen to music on obsolete mediums.

I actually am listening (as I type) to some mini disks that I just recently found. My phone is my normal MP3 player but it mysteriously erased my music one day after an update.

I refuse to buy an ipod.

I prefer to buy digital, but I hate itunes and refuse to have anything to do with them. Ditto anything with DRM.

An artist expends time, talent, effort, and creative energy to record music, the label pays for studio, sound engineer, and marketing of this product; you the take it for free without the artist's permission, and this is not stealing how? The absurd and juvenile rationalizations all boil down to "I want something but don't want to earn it." Just because it's easy and one is unlikely to be caught, doesn't make it right. I'd love to see people doing jail time for it, but then I also think punishment is a valid aspect of the justice system.

I personally only buy Tapes, occasionally 8-Tracks. Leave me alone, I'm gonna go watch a Beta on my black and white TV. :D


In all seriousness, I just download music, if I like it, I plot it on my Ipod and later buy it. I've been buying a ton of vinyl lately, and I've got a few CDs. I never really liked CDs...

What if most of the stuff is unavailable in your country, or like 40$ for a single cd to get in imported. And yes, I live in Canada and both examples have personally happened.

I started to figure out the $ value of what I've "stolen" once. I came to the startling conclusion that the stuff I could get up here would've put me in so much debt that I'd pretty much would be declaring bankruptcy right now. A lot of that is actually the recenter (is that even a word?) additions that have affected me greatly, both personally and in my bass "playing".

Not saying that its right or wrong, but just that my life would be a lot more boring without file sharing :hmm:

Quick Edit: Strangely enough tho I still prefer CDs as a medium over mp3s since the quality is basically standardized at one value whereas digital media can vary greatly.

Its "warmer" from what I gather, and its all analog. Basically the grooves cause the needle to vibrate and that gets amped and sent to speakers. No conversion other than boosting the signal.

CDs are read by lasers and then D>A converted. Depending on the converter it can be great or it can be horrible. Kindof like ripping something at 60kB/s and comparing it to a rip @ 320.

Then you can't afford it. Or you can buy from Amazon.com, or somewhere else. Of you don't get to have it.

I want 35 custom made basses to make my life less "boring", but I can't afford that. So I get to play the basses I can afford. Again, you're justifying illegal behavior in the name of what? Not being bored? I hope you invest thousands upon thousands of dollars into your project, only to sell 50 copies, and have all those copies pirated without your consent. It's wrong. Period.

if im going to pay for something ill buy a CD or vinyl which i probably will never even unwrap. chances are ive already pirated it before i went out and bought it.

also, one day ill have a nice mint vinyl and CD collection because they have all never been played :D
