I have played and owned both basses in my 30 years of playing. I personally prefer the Fender Jazz Bass over the Foundation simply because I like the the overall feel, sound, and slapping comfort that comes with the Jazz Bass.
I like the older MIM Jazz basses (early 90's) than the newer ones. My only downfall with the MIM Jazz bass is the two pickups being the same size and the necks need more adjusting in weather changes than other basses I have owned.

The Foundations and the Jazz are apples and oranges. I have a couple of each and use them differently. Interesting thought to put the Super Ferrites in a Jazz. Hmmmm!

EVERY Foundation I have tried was wonderful to play - great neck and action, where the Jazzes varied.

just an update......I couldn't bring myself to get rid of the jazz bass in a trade so i kept it and just traded in some other gear and scored the foundation....now I have both and I'm glad....Gio S was right.....apples and oranges,,,,,,,,and one works better in some recipies and the other in others. The foundation sounds awesome and mean but also brought a new appreciation for the tone of my jazz bass. Glad I have both

I went through 6 MIMs at the shop before I purchased mine and got a good one with only 1 minor flaw (pole pieces are not exactly centered on stings) but I am still glad I have the Peavey. It really does sound better on some of the stuff I am doing. Plus the Peavey was only 200 dollars and I traded in gear not being used for it. I am confident that this bass is on par in quality with the japanese fenders, ernie ball sterling.....etc most all us made production (non custom) basses

Don't get me wrong I love my jazz bass and in our little 16 song set list I use the jazz on 9 songs but those other 7 are no contest, the Peavey foundation sounds better and fills the mix much much better

How did it work out installing Superferrites in your MIM Jazz bass? During my research of Foundation basses, I've been seeking samples/descriptions of the Ferrites sound.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

I have two jazzes and four foundations. The foundations play better, are built better, and sit in the mix better. I am having my MIM Jazz fitted with Peavey Superferrites just so I can have a good sounding Jazz.

Boy this is an old thread. While I was waiting for my luthier friend to route(I don't have a router) another tb'er posted about wanting to trade his Foundation 2000 Fretless for a jazz. I put the jazz back together and am now the owner of a gold Foundation 2000 Fretless. I ended up selling the Superferrites to another Tb'er who had just purchased a a lefty Foundation without pickups and was on the hunt. My affection for Foundations continues unabated I have purchased 3 more since trading the jazz.
