Which One?

Which bass should I buy?

I'm a long-time guitarist, first-time bassist, and I'm looking for my first bass guitar. I play genres from prog rock (Geddy Lee) to heavy metal (Lemmy Kilmister) and I was just wondering...

Which bass would be best?

You would probably like either the 2 or the 5. I'm voting for the 2 since you are a Geddy fan and it's body is more Geddyish. The 'Ray style guard looks strange on a J to me, but if it's routed like the neck pup under there, you might be able to chunk it.

I've had several SX's through the years and the latest is an ash bodied P. It needs nothing, very impressed with it. With either Jazz you may need to shield it.

None of these three.
I just bought the Ursa 2, to remove the neck and put on a fretless maple neck I have.
I am no gigging Bass player, but I know a thing or two and the Ursa 2 I received did NOT have an Alder body. It's either some kind of pine or basswood, but so not alder.

I have purchased 6 bass guitars from Rondo and this is the first eff-up so far. If you are to buy any from Rondo - get this one Link Removed or Link Removed. You won't regret the little bit extra spent.

Spend $20 more and get either this one:

or this one:

I have the sunburst one and it is an incredible bass for the money! The neck is much nicer, better fret job, better wood, better body wood, better tuners, etc. Well worth the extra $20!

I have picked up Squiers on Craigslist for $50 but usually the posted prices are unrealistic.

I think an SX would be fine, especially if you want new and are just starting out. Later on you can string it BEAD or set it up in some way that differs from whatever you upgrade to.

I would suggest the P bass because it will be cheaper to upgrade the pickup if you ever want to do that.

If you don't care for the styling, go with white or black and get a matching pickguard. Guitar Fetish sells PGs for under $15.

IMHO, those headstocks are just plain ugly. But since that is just my opinion, you should pick the one you like best. It doesn't matter what any of us think, all that matters is what kind of playing you wish to get out of your new bass.
