Does anyone know who played upright bass on the original ?

AI says Buddy Killen. It also added that due to Possum being in his usual state it required a massive number of takes and retakes. So much so Killen developed blisters and threatened to quit.

In the 80s and 90s....I probably played that song as many times as Possum did.
A real crowd pleaser.
We opened for him in the 90s.
Cant tell you much about George, as he didn't come off his bus until it was time for him to walk on stage. But his band were great guys. I played through his bass players backline. His bass player at the time used a Pbass...
