Who doesnt like maple necks?

I've been test-playing a few MIA P-basses at a local shop lately. Really couldn't tell a difference in tone or "snap" between the basses with maple and rosewood fretboards, but for some reason the rosewood felt a little better on my fingertips.

Don't know why. Maybe it's the difference between the finish on the maple vs. the raw (well, not really) rosewood? Or could just have been fresher strings on the maple bass, so they had a bit more bite on my fingers...

I'm used to a rosewood board on my MIM Jazz bass, but my Tele guitar is maple.

Rosewood sounds more brilliant in the highest of highs to me, and maple sounds too bright because the upper mids are accentuated. So, for me..I'm a rosewood guy. I'd prefer no maple at all in the neck actually, but an all rosewood neck is too dark.

This Goncalo Alves Neck Wood/Pau Ferro Fingerboard is perfect really. Great tone combination. Meaty and articulate without that maple harshness:

I bought that neck from the showcase and just finished the build.
