Who else likes dead or deadish roundwounds?

I just pulled an old and well used set of Sunbeams out of my drawer and put them on my Pao Ferro neck Aguilar 4J60 pups Jazz bass. Did it as an experiment with tension with this new neck but like them tone wise. Gonna play 'em until I want to get a new set just because. New Sunbeams on my PJ. LaBella LTFs on the P. Carry on.

Me! When the notes on the E string become indistinguishable, I change the strings!
(Unless I'm doing a studio session. Then I always need to have brand new ones, but only if they're roundwounds.)

I play them until they don't intonate any more.

Some strings really age better than others. If it's rounds I like the fatter broken in tone until the point when they get too dull or they start not staying in tune well. That time can vary greatly. Especially if I'm playing my fretless I really like it broken in. At the point where some people would say it's dead I'd still play them on fretless. Fretted I'd probably be quicker to put on a fresh set.

Yes. I was wondering if anyone else liked their strings like this. Love the sound and feel of Roto 66’s after a year of play. I’ll keep em on for 10 years before changing.
