Who only uses 1 or 2 effects with a band?

My comp is always on, SVT setting on the Zoom but I have one combo effects sound that uses a filter, phaser and reverb. If I didn't use the multi, I'd need to have a bigger board and would have to do some tap dancing or put in on a loop. Way too much for a sound that I use for a few songs. I recently removed the tuner and just use the B1X's tuner so it's down to 2 pedals.

Okay lessgo! Bassist who played in a couple original rock/punk bands I had a board with about 5-8 pedals (including volume). I would use a combination of these for a single effect and rarely just used 1 pedal for one effect (unless it was for dirt). IE: delay + reverb + octave + volume = 1 effect for parts of songs.
I know I could always buy combo pedals, and still could but I either dont have the funds for such pedals or time to play each pedal im interested in, to see how well it would blend with the effect Im chasing in my head.
Nowadays Im not in a band, and I've downgraded currently to 2 pedals, EQD Afterneath + Pike Audio Vulcan.
These two pedals plus my volume knob allows me to get 80-90% of the effects I want with much less tap dancing involved to engage. I still very much miss my octave pedals and Im still very interested in buying a new delay pedal, fuzz, maybe a comp pedal, am still curious about a decent chorus, idk hey what was the question again? how many pedals we want?

I'll get blasted for this but...I have found that - for me - in many cases, most bass effects get lost in the mix. Cover band has a guitar player with a decent board and a synth player. By the time they're done layering all their stuff in, there isn't a whole lot of room left for me. And honestly, I think a nice defined bass sound - and drums - helps drive the band and gives everyone else a solid foundation on which to build the stuff that maybe gets heard more clearly like guitar and synth effects/patches. Hell, my guitar player said that when we played "Can't Stop the Feeling" one time (which "should" have a filter of some kind on it) that it sounded almost like I had a filter pedal on. Tone is in the fingers?

I run an Empress Bass Compressor - one of the best pedals I've ever had - and maybe a little fuzz from the Bass Big Muff that's on my board but rarely used - into a REDDI. Pretty solid.

I'm just curious to see if anyone else feels like one or two effects seem to do the trick for whatever on a live gig with the band. Sort of a minimalist without being too minimal.
i have a small board (that keeps getting smaller/fewer pedals). the only actual EFX pedals are reverb and a C4. i'm still learning what i like about the C4 but i intend to use it as my 'one and only'. caveat on the pedalboard: i take it to gigs when i feel like it! :) sometimes i'm busy enough with other things on a gig that futzing with a pedalboard is just too much. for me.

Only a few (Other than EQ, or a little overdrive, provided by the green pedal).

Chorus for some 1980's songs.
Enveloppe for some funky songs
Octave/Fuzz for synthy sounds.

All those effects covered by my Fly Rig. No room for other pedals though...

I try to never take more than 3 pedals out with me (sometimes less).
So currently, it's....
1.) Compressor - Aguilar db599
2.) Octave - OC-5
3.) "Optional Fun" - either a Source Audio Manta, Aguilar Agro, Phase-95, Boss DD-8, or GGG-tuned Muff Clone ("Bluebeard-like")

Lately, it's just been 1 and 2.

I'm not talking about a preamp or an eq, which are effects of sorts I suppose... but mainly something like phaser, envelope, flanger, chorus, etc.

I've read some saying they have all kinds of effects at home but don't take anything but maybe a preamp on a gig.

Note this is nothing against anyone using 20 effects, whatever you feel works is great.

I was going to ask about one but some effects may go together like an octave and envelope.

I typically don't use any except for the occasional chorus pedal or octave pedal, but it's kind of a "chicken/egg" thing: it's kind of hard for me to tell at home how a pedal's going to sound on stage, so whenever I try to add pedals to the mix for rehearsals or live shows they don't sound right* and I end up bailing on them. As a result, I've never quite figured out how to set them up to do what I want reliably, so most of the time I just don't bother.

*Most notably with overdrive/distortion and flangers; I feel like I lose all the low end. I'm sure it's probably a relatively easy fix, but I just haven't been able to figure it out and most of the time I don't really need them anyway.

I play in a 3-piece cover band and supply the bass rig for a monthly jam session. I only use a tuner, chorus, and OD/distortion.

My amp (Blackstar Unity 700) has a handful of built in effects - chorus, octave, OD, distortion, fuzz - that can be controlled by the 2-channel footswitch. You can pick one from OD/Distortion/Fuzz for Channel A and one of Chorus/Octave for Channel B. So I have a pedal tuner and my A / B footswitch. For all the stuff we cover, I use chorus on a couple tunes and OD, uh, not very often.

Prior to this amp, I had tuner / chorus / octave / wah pedals. I NEVER used the Wah, but liked having it there....

Depends on the music. I wouldn't possibly bring any effects to a blues gig, but I've used so many other effects with bands that require synth and/or distorted, etc. sounds. Effects are tools, just as a plumber wouldn't use a hammer if he needed a screwdriver, you use certain effect(s) if/when necessary.

I have a chorus pedal that I got for Christmas last year, but haven't really used it yet. I hooked it up through my audio interface so I could check it out with my headphones and played around with it a bit, but it doesn't seem to do much to my sound. I'd need to run it through my effects loop on my amp because I use a wireless on my bass. I'll try to remember to take it along to the next gig, which may be a while.
