Who uses mixed cabs?

I am curious as to who uses mixed cabs here and how do you like the sound? I know there are all kinds of threads about the benefits/pitfalls of dong so, so that debate is not what I am after. I just want to know who is doing it and what configuration you are using and do you like it. The reason I am asking this is because I always wanted a 3 way 115 cab and now I am getting one. I am seriously looking at selling my 1212L .. but I still want something just a tad smaller than the 115 (read lighter) so that if need be, I would have an option to take the smaller cab an d use both if the situation called for it.. The 115 I am getting is only 2 lbs heavier than my 1212L so it isn't a major difference in weight ... but I was curious as to how some of you felt. I have heard about the phase issues and even when it sounds great on stage (a mixed cab setup) the mixed cabs can cause drop outs at other points in the room etc.. and who knows.. this 3 way 115 may be all I need .. it certainly will be my only option for a little while at least .. but I am just curious about this so I am asking..

I'm using a couple of Hiwatt clone cabs built by Jeff Swanson, one is a 2x12 and the other a 1x15. I think they sound fantastic!

Tried a 112 and a 115 together. Sounds fine at lower volume, but doesn't have any real benefit since I am still limited by the 112. Going for two 115s when I can get another.

I had an Avatar 212 and 410.
They sounded great and were VERY loud.

Eden wt550 head + Eden 4x10xlt cab, EQed for lows & low mids only
SWR Super Redhead 2x10 combo, EQed for high mids & highs only
I think the isolation of frequencies with EQ prevents interference.

Very happy with it. Better than my previously owned:

Peavey Mark II with Black Widow 2x15
GK 800RB with JBL 1x15 + JBL 1x10 + JBL 1x10
Walter Woods with JBLs listed above

As good as, but different than my previously owned:

1970s Ampeg SVT 300w head with Ampeg 8x10 cab
But that old SVT head had been modified by somebody and it used to die & need repair every 3 weeks like clockwork.

Since I play small stuff, I never needed more than a combo or a head/single-cab combination. But since I built me this little

6" + 10" (two woofers in separate chambers) that sounds absolutely good I say "not an issue". The so feared phase cancellation stuff is just mostly negligible (mvho), since you will have phase rotations and phase distorsion anyway. Most times. Even with two equal single speaker cabs one on top of the other; maybe much less, but you cannot have a perfect loudspeakers stack. My opinion, obviously... (can we still discuss frankly and relaxed, here?)

In addition, just think about a two (or three) way cab with its crossover: there is an overlapping zone between two consecutive speakers (frequency wise) in which they will reproduce the same band of frequency anyway (phase issues are at play big time, here). And furthermore, anytime you insert a filter (6, 12 dB per octave or even more) you'll introduce phase distorsion.

Not a real issue for me: if it plays good it is good.

I use a 'Kustom' 2x15 cab outfitted with Peavey Black Widows and an SWR working man 2x10 cab on top. Each is powered by a seperate amp: GK 1001 RB, and 400 RB; respectively.

I have used a 4X10 + 1X15 in the past. I never noticed any issues with it, and I sounded great! I was never able to get a 2nd 4X10 or 1X15 to see which sounded better when I owned them, so I've got nothing to compare it to.

These days I've got matched cabs. A pair of GS112's and a pair of Bag End S15D's. Both sound awesome.

I use a Trace Elliot 4x10 and Trace Elliot 1x15 sounds great to my ears and have had a lot of positive comments from audience members and other bands about my tone

My big rig is an Aggie GS212 under an Aggie S410. Power amp-pre set up allows better control of the pairing.

After 46 years of stage experience I also could care less what the self-proclaimed sonic experts say. I play a Mesa Powerhouse 4x10 + 1x15 setup because I like the way they sound together...crispy highs, thundering lows. I've never had a problem with this setup, even at "outdoor festival" volume levels.

a Hartke 410XL
an SWR Goliath 6x10
an SWR Big Ben 18

I mix and match as I please. I used the Hartke + Big Ben for years, never a single complaint from anyone.

Whatever sounds good.

Trace rig - 2X10 w/tweater and a 1X15. Sounds great to my ears as well as band mates and sound guys. On the other hand I'm curious how replacing the 2X10 with another 1X15 would sound.

Never ecountered problems with it, always hear myself and am pleased of the sound onstage and in jam space, can choose one or the other or both, whichever is better for the gig that will be played (from super loud and punchy punk rock to deep and delicious reggae). I also run a SansAmp RBI as a DI and additional preamp.

i have a old gk 4x10 that doesnt have a great bottom end mixed with a peavey 4x10. the peavey has a horn with a crossover, the horn sucks so i have it turned all the way off so the cab only has the lows. it makes a good blend for my sound. im actually a little worried about if either cab ever dies if i would find a match to give me my sound!
