No - normally I agree - but the thread starter asked a particular question and in this context only, I think there is an easy answer!

I think people are getting too hung up on a discussion about the history of music - which is valid and interesting... - but really all it is doing is confusing the issue...:hmm:

I agree it is a "sound" which could be used in any context - but all I'm saying is that it far more likely to be used in Jazz -which is what the original question was!

I played in rock/pop bands for 10 -15 years, going to gigs and playing every week - never heard it used!! Started studying Jazz about 5-6 years ago and it came up within a few weeks and there were hundreds of examples on Jazz recordings, pointed out to me ....:hmm:
