Ghost threads on TB all seem to go the same way. On third believe and have experiences, one third are completely skeptics and act like if you're not then you're a fruitcake. And of course, the last third are just people having a cheap joke.
Of course, this can all be explained away by physics. I have a perfect example. I lived in an apartment (flat) a few years ago. We were down stairs, but the upstairs remained empty the whole time I was there. I'm a complete skeptic. I am the son of an east coast investment banker and my mom was quite literally a rocket scientist (designed fuel systems for missles) who also did some nuclear work for the government too.
Anyway...I lived in the flat and it was a nice place. Turn of the century, but well kept up and updated along the way. We did have a few problems with the place. I'm not sure how, but it seems like some rules of physics would get wonky. These things would happen when you were home alone, or with friends.
Gravity was particularly difficult. Sometimes objects would ignore gravity, or worse, seem to create their own velocity. Sometimes, as if to make up for these lapses, it would work extra hard. One night I had this over zealous gravity pin me to my bed for a while. Another night, gravity was being quite an over achiever...and it did it to both my girlfriend and I. The funny thing is that we had not fallen asleep yet and were just in bed relaxing.
Sound waves were also sometimes problematic when it came to following the rules...voices would decide to happen, but not when someone would open their mouth. Sometimes those voices might say your name. Funny. There were other funny things to do with sound...but again there was more to it. Because some sounds, like footsteps...you could actually feel the vibration in the building. Weirder still, the makers of those footsteps must have been really quick, because when you'd check them out, there'd be no one in the area, upstairs, our floor, etc. The footstep makers could run away so fast that you didn't even see them in the driveway afterwards!
Electricity in the house was great. VERY enthusiastic. Lights would spring to life by themselves as would TV or radios with the exuberance of power. Of course, enthusiasm only lasts for so long, and soon enough lights or radios and TVs would also turn themselves off. Really, though, it was a convenience, right? Who doesn't want a house with automatic lighting and appliances? Only that we could never quite master when or how.
Now, there was one thing that tested my skepticism...But I'm sure there's an entirely plausible explanation. Items like keys or shoes that you'd leave in the livingroom near the front door would occasionally end up in the unused back bedroom, in the far back behind the boxes and clutter. I figure it was my roommate playing a joke though, right? I mean it was the perfect set up...him frantically looking for his car keys for an hour and missing work and getting in trouble over it. I mean, he was quite a joker.
Anyway, I lived in the place for about a year. It was a great place, and I've had several other apartments since. All of them are in the same neighborhood and of the same era. None of them have had the same creative physics. Its almost boring, you put your keys down and you know where they'll wind up. Gravity acts with boring predictability, as do all the power, water, etc.
As a side note, my VERY skeptical parents DID come and stay with me for a long weekend. After that visit, they politely declined to visit again. Maybe their schedule was too busy. Oh, they also were regularly and vocally supportive of me apartment hunting...even though the place was large, bright, clean and cheap...and my lease still had the better part of a year. Hrrrrrmmmm.
