Who's your "I just don't get it" artist?

Anyone who writes lazy lyrics. For example:

Under my umbrella -ella, -ella, eh, eh, eh
Under my umbrella -ella, -ella, eh, eh, eh
Under my umbrella -ella, -ella, eh, eh, eh
Under my umbrella -ella, -ella, eh, eh, eh

That's a chorus? Geesh.

Nah it's not a chorus. The chorus is:

When the sun shines, we shine together
Told you I'll be here forever
Said I'll always be your friend
Took an oath that I'm a stick it out till the end
Now that it's raining more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella

A nice play on "in sickness in health, for richer or poorer" etc

"Nah, Nah-Nah, Nahn a nah-nah, Nahn a nah-nah, Hey Jude" has to set the gold standard for lazy lyrics.

I'd start with Bob Dylan and Randy Newman for the same reason....I just cannot get past their voices.

On the other hand, I think Neil Young is pretty cool, and his voice is well, you know.....

And, since you ask, I bet I've tried half a dozen times to "get" Gentle Giant. I really did. I don't hate them, I just don't get it. Ditto the Grateful Dead.

i dunno about that.
Back then...no web, no books, no teachers, etc. Their records taught a lot of us how to play and arrange for...what else...2 guitars, bass, and drums.
"Musicianship" also includes how they used the studio. IMO.

Granted, they were not Cream...
:)
I agree, bad choice of words. None of them were virtuosos. That's all.

Reactions: the harp unstrung
Cue the hate: Jaco

Amazing talent, technique, and inventiveness? Without question.
But to me it's always been: huh?? I just don't get it, not because I haven't tried or that it's intellectually beyond me...I just don't like what I hear. At all. I own Heavy Weather and for years kept trying to like it, but I just don't.
And that tone - OMG that tone is everything I hate about a bass tone.

If Jaco was all I knew of bass playing, I never ever would have picked up a bass.

And he'd be well within his rights to list ME as the answer to this question, if anyone had ever heard of me.

I've never got Jaco but then apart from a couple of Stanley C funky numbers I don't care for solo bass tunes.
Rush,Yes and the whole Prog thing is another alien concept.
The Beatles I get as a pop group, what I don't get is the god-like status some folks in the US give them. It's a bit different over here in the UK.

So far I'm agreeing with every artist folks have listed.
