Why do some amp companies not have a Headphone jack?

I've decided that I want to play bass right now, it's almost 11 PM, and my parents are sleeping, and my Peavey Tour 700 doesn't have a headphone jack... I thought it did, but it doesn't. It really doesn't bother me as I can just play tomorrow, but that leaves me with this:

What is the point of not putting a headphone Out jack on the back of the head? I know some have it, and some don't, but it would make more sense to me at least, to have it as one of the included features..

Also, can I use headphones through the AUX IN jack, or one of the Effects in or Send jacks?

Sorry for the somewhat nooby question, I just really don't wanna pull out my old practice amp to play a few songs.

not everyone wants one. like me. i never needed one, and for me it would be just one more thing to break and/or add money to the cost of an amp.

if you want to go to the lengths you can connect your head to your computer, and then run your headphones through that

They are mainly found on practice amps, the companies probably expect that you own a smaller amp.

Get a little headphone amp, i use the VOX bass headphone amp for nighttime and its perfect for my needs. cost only $50 and you can play bass in places you normally wouldnt cause youc an just bring the bass and tiny headphone amp rather than even a small practice amp

Yeah, I guess they just expect you to have a smaller combo I guess, and I do, it's a tiny 8 inch behringer but I threw it in the garage when I got my new setup. Oh well, I'm sure I can just wait until tomorrow, it's just odd. I think I've seen mods done to heads actually on TB, where users have thrown in a headphone jack. It just seems like it would be an easy thing to throw on a head stock.

It's also because of the tech support..

I've heard tons of customer service folks describing calls "my amp doesn't work" when they try to use the headphones for an effects loop etc.

They're normally on practice sized amps..

I practice unplugged. The sound of my bass through headphones has always annoyed me. Maybe it means that my sound also annoys the audience, who knows?

I've found that my amps never sound as good through the headphone jack as through the speaker (bass guitar or guitar amps). It does allow you to play without annoying others late at night, but it is not near as satisfying as playing through the whole shebang.

I use a Pandora PX4B for that sort of thing, and don't really own a "practice amp", per se - all my amps are gig capable... Truthfully, a headphone jack is of no use to me...

If I want to practice, I usually just do so unplugged. I tend to dig in pretty heavy, so I get plenty enough volume to feel satisfied.

no f, it means that headphones are for **** when listening to bass i do it when i record, sure, but i don't like it...always sounds plinky like a banjo to me.

Hi.

Making a good headphone out costs money, that's one of the reasons headphone out isn't a standard accessory.

If Your Peavey circuitry and signal path is anywhere close to a SWR ST220 (SM 400), You can use the preamp out as a wet output and the effects send as a dry output.
Without mods You'll only get either side of the headphones working though.

You can also make a headphone out box that's connected to the amp output, out of a few resistors, like BassmanPaul suggested on a similar thread.

Considering all the options many companies are putting in amps these days you would think that the cost of 2 resistors, 1' of hook up wire, and a 1/4" jack would not break the bank.
I remember when tuner output jacks didn't exist and now it's standard equipment.
Manufacturers must not feel it's a demand item for bass heads although I'd gladly pay the extra few dollars for it.

to OP: Get something portable for your cans, you don't want to lug your 'touring' model to use with headphones.

I don't see that a lot on bigger amps. For me I use my practice amp at home or the Vox amp plug which I got for around $30 and it sounds excellent. I would like to know what people have to say about the other part of your question. Can you use one of the output jacks on the back as a headphone jack? I Don't know. TB help

i have one on my amp and never use it. i do not like headphones for listening to anythign though
