Why do you play a Rickenbacker?

I like the feel of the neck, 4003's are well balanced, and I just like the look of it too.

I play a Rick because they kick a$$!!

Wish this was in color so you could see it in all it's 1985 Ruby glory!!

Color? Looks just fine from my perspective. But then, I did run a custom black & white photo lab for almost 22 years.

Well, I could critique the "printing" technique in making this photo....................

Here is one small example of my own personal work.

Beautiful picture!

There is something special about black and white, isn't there? Not being a visual guy, I can't describe it or put my finger on it. The guy who took the shot I posted did a bunch that evening in B&W and they just look great.

So I ended up spending the evening doing some work in front of the TV and watching Deep Purple Live in Copenhagen 1972. What a great show, and how cool is Roger Glover anyway?

His tone KILLED, and got particularly gnarly towards the end, especially during the encores.

Anyway, here's more Rick porn - still doesn't do my Ruby justice, but cool shot still.

No one told me we were posting pics...I agree about the attention getting comments..this pic is from a New Year's Eve masquerade ball gig that had 3 bands play that night. When we were finished with our set, every bass player (and other musicians) said something about my Ric. It's usually about my tone and how I "killed it tonight"..it's nice when regular people give you compliments but, it feels real good when your peers do it..Link Removed

I do not own a Ric, but i feel free to contribute anyway.
If i was owning a Ric, and was asked why, my answer would be twofold:
1. The Ric is a classic, standing in line with instruments like The Fender P & J, (the MusicMan Stingray,) and the Höfner. But of the classics, the Ric is clearly the most badass instrument.
The sweep of the body and headstock, the pickguard, the knobs, the PU design - every aspect more badass than anything else that can be found in the classics.
2. Lemmy Kilmister.

For those who prefer black and white..

Dude - great pictures, both of them! and......very cool look you got going on there, the Rick ties it all together. Yea - a Rick always get noticed and commented on, doesn't it? Photographers seem drawn to them as well.

Details on your Rick?

I bought a Ric because some of my favorite band-mate bassists have used them. Love the look, love the craftsmanship, love the sound...I just don't love playing it. Which sucks, because I really, really, really like everything else about the 4003. So, now it's for sale! :(

...my 1972 Rickenbacker 4001, that I bought, new-off-the-wall at Terminal music in NYC in the autumn of 1974. The pick guard cracked some time in the early '90s. I replaced the white pick guard with a grey one. Sometimes I wonder if I should have replaced the white 'Ric' on the headstock at the same time, but the pick guard was a matter of function.

Hmmm........not questioning you exactly, but I think a 72 should have checkered binding and crushed MOP full width inlays.
Yeah, the CB, too. Also the older cast aluminum tailpiece and bridge. Plexi finger rest, too (although with a changed pickguard we wouldn't necessarily know that). Are there holes under the pickguard where the finger rest would go?
