why have a battery in your bass?

I've got 4 active basses (+ a guitar too), so I place a little piece of masking tape on the rear cover of each and write the date the battery was replaced on it.

I can remember when I've been playing a particular bass a lot or not, but I sure can't remember the last time I put a battery in it. Lots of play, replace battery at 6 months; not so much, 12 months.

If recording at home, I'll always run a test track first and if anything sounds off, replace the battery.

If burning paid studio time, I'd put in a fresh one at the start of the project.
