Why have "Sterling" lo line EBMM?????

From what I've heard, Sterling himself didn't want it to be called "Sterling by Music Man", but they did it anyway.

That has been discussed here several times and frankly is ridicules. Sterling Ball had the final say on the naming convention.

Well, not to start an argument, but the Sterling by MusicMan line doesn't have the same instrument names. The bass that is similiar to an EBMM Sterling 4H is the SB14. The EBMM Stingray 4H is an Ray34 and the instrument like a Stingray 5H is the Ray35.

Also the SBMM instruments are comparable to Lakland's Skyline series, G&L's Tribute Series, Spector's Performer Series. The idea is to get instruments with pretty close to the same characteristics into as large a user community as possible to spread your brand.

Nothing has changed about EBMM instruments, but the Sterling line has allowed to get a Music Man-type instrument into more people's hands. Besides, they are definitely better than the old OLP basses.

Perhaps you should visit the EB forums and do a little reading.

And if you have played the new sterling line, you would know that it in no way "cheapens" the ebmm name. It's an introductory line that is an incredible buy for the price. If anything, I would say that it shows EBMM's commitment to quality, even in an import.

Wow, yeah. I feel like my personal integrity has really been compromised by EBMM. How dare they devalue MY INVESTMENT in their USA-built bass (which was going to fund my kid's college education) by introducing a high-quality import line to provide instruments to bassist who aren't rolling in cash?

It makes me sick to think that beginner bassists with limited finances could get their grimy hands on a bass that's similarly named to mine, thereby diminishing the quality of the bass I own. I mean, before this slap in the face, my EBMM was a great bass! Now it's a bitch to play and it sounds like crap! It's even started to smell funny!

It's obscene. I hope that they spiral into insignificance like Fender did after they introduced that junky Squire line.

If they named the new line "Doucebag by Music Man" would the new basses sound/play any different? of course not.

Last night I A/B'd the SB14 vs. the real deal, and I was pleasantly surprised by the SB14. My only complaint is only 3 colors and no maple fretboard (yet) for the SB14.

No reason to flip out over something as stupid as a company's decision to name a line of basses the same as one of their models.

Anyone interested in buying a used MM MIA Sterling will know that it is a MIA and not a Ray34 or whatever.

Personally, the decision to call this line Sterling after already having a $1200+ MIA model named that is stupid, but what do I know? They are selling tons of "Sterling by Musicman".

Also, If I had Sterling Ball's $$$, I would burn mine.

I thought we had agreed (long ago, it seems) to call the US-made, Ernie Ball Music Man products "EBMM" and the imported, Sterling by Music Man products "SBMM". So even if you call the SB14 a Sterling (which it is not, even though it's a great deal on a really nice instrument), all you have to do is write "SBMM Sterling" and everybody will know what you mean (even if you don't). And "EBMM Sterling" is still correct and to the point. Describing an SBMM bass as "EBMM" is incorrect.

Oh, I dunno. I got about ten or eleven Music Man basses around the house and I'd still rock one of those silverburst mamas. You seen those yet? Oh, and you should PLAY these things. Really decent for their price point. I like 'em.

Whoa, I hope you're not getting this "real information" from the internetz.

Seriously. Those are decent basses at a decent price. What YOU have is a superb bass at a reasonable price. See?
